How it is calculated — and the one assumption, stated plainly

Base case: verified per-order fees only, no Offsite Ads, no refunds. Stressed case: the same fees plus Offsite Ads 15% of the order base when the toggle is on (Etsy only), plus your refund rate. A refunded order is modelled as: revenue $0, product + shipping costs still paid, platform fees assumed refunded. That assumption is stated here because it is not verified for every platform — some platforms keep part of the fee on a refund, which would make the stressed result worse. The tool therefore also shows a lower bound: stressed profit if fees were kept on every refunded order. The truth for your shop is between those two lines; check your seller dashboard for your platform's refund fee policy.

No other “hidden fees” are invented here. If a rate is not in the Fee Index and not entered by you, it is not in this calculation — that is the point of the test.

Worked example (defaults): Canada, Etsy, price $40, shipping charged $8, cost $15, shipping cost $6, 50 orders, 10% refunds, Offsite Ads on. Base fees $5.25 per order, base monthly net $1,087.50. Stressed fees $12.45 per order ($5.25 + 15% × $48 = $7.20). Stressed net per completed order $14.55; per refunded order −$21.00 (costs paid, fees assumed refunded). Expected stressed monthly = 50 × (0.9 × $14.55 + 0.1 × −$21.00) = $549.75. If fees were kept on refunds, stressed monthly falls by 50 × 0.1 × $12.45 = $62.25, to $487.50.

Why Amazon is not compared — explicit exclusion

Amazon is not in this tool, deliberately — not an oversight and not a “coming soon” badge. Amazon referral fees vary by category (roughly 8% to 45%) and FBA fees depend on size and weight, which this tool does not collect, and Amazon’s Seller Central schedule is login-gated and could not be verified from an official page. No Amazon numbers are shown rather than guessed ones. See the Fee Index for exactly what is missing.
